Design Theodore Waddel, 1973

The 714 round table was born from a research initiated by Theodore Waddell in 1956 regarding the design of extremely dynamic and light load-bearing structures, based on the architecture of the tensile structure.

The result is a design table enhanced by an almost molecular balance and an extremely elegant sculptural impact, where the overall structure is marked by six legs, three of which are suspended, supporting the glass top, and the other three resting on the ground but separated from the top.

Lightweight tensile structure

The piece stems from a research started by Waddell in 1956 regarding the design of tables with extremely light load-bearing structures, based on the architecture of the tensile structure. The author studied the advanced systems patented by the American technologist Buckminster Fuller and, later, in 1972 he created a type of configuration for Cassina in which, for the first time, it was possible to create pieces of furniture through the use of cables. supporting. The construction has six legs, three of which are suspended - supporting the glass top - and the other three resting on the ground but separated from the top. The result is an almost molecular balance, of great elegance and sculptural impact.
