053 Capitol Complex Poltrona
Design Mario Bellini, 2019
Designed for the Capitol Complex building by Le Corbusier in Chandigarh, the design armchair is a re-edition of Cassina in homage to Pierre Jeanneret, a key figure in the creation of the Indian city.
The padding that wraps the armrest and the generous seat and back cushions give the armchair an idea of immediate comfort, together with elegance and simplicity.

A work of high carpentry
Included in the 2016 Unesco cultural heritage list, the stunning architecture of the Capitol Complex of Le Corbusier, designed by Chandigarh in 1951, has received accolades for its celebration of an independent nation open to modernity. The Haute Cour, together with the Secretariat and the Assemblée wing, form the core of the Chandigarh Capitol Complex. The rooms were filled with upholstered armchairs, all with the same theme as the "V" support structure. The only visible wooden parts are the supports, the connecting crosspieces and the external joints between the armrests and the backrest. The padding of the armrests envelops them almost completely, creating the outline of a rounded geometric shape, which together with the marked padding of the seat and back, offer an immediate sense of comfort without sacrificing their elegance and simplicity. The Cassina reissue offers the classic version in teak and two versions in natural and stained black oak.
